Welcome to Malta!
This year's ISPA
International Conference of School Psychology promises to be a very 'diverse' occasion!
The theme, School
Psychology for Diversity, reflects a central issue in the work of many of us: dealing with issues of diversity in the
classroom, regarding, for instance, ethnicity, religion, ability, language and age, to name the most obvious. The same diversity of course is found among the teachers, future colleagues and trainers in school psychology.
School psychologists can play an important role in helping to create an educational environment where respect for this
diversity goes hand in hand with a safe school climate in which children can develop according to their individual
abilities and needs. During the conference, keynotes, offered by a variety of internationally well esteemed
colleagues, and pre-conference workshops will address a diversity of issues relevant to the work of school
psychologists in today's diverse world.
You are all invited to contribute to this program and widen the range of diversity by sharing your own
experience, through paper presentations, symposia or posters - or by your participation in the discussions and
informal collegial exchanges!
The theme also symbolizes the diversity that can be found among the conference participants. Last year, in the
Netherlands, 41 countries were represented. In Malta, I hope we will again be able to welcome (new) colleagues from
all parts of the world. Because of the location, on the border of two continents, I would especially like to invite
our Mediterranean and African colleagues to join us and share your knowledge and experience. As always, the ISPA
conference will offer a warm and friendly atmosphere, in which diversity is welcomed and cherished. The mix of
colleagues will undoubtedly lead to new friendships, professional inspiration and connections for the future.
With the beautiful surroundings of Malta, offering a diversity of culture and history, awaiting us, I am looking
forward to a wonderful and inspiring conference. Let's meet in Malta!
